Thank you to all who applied to the gallery, sorry we were not able to get back to all of you individually as we are away getting our ghostly frames sun burnt and trying to get as far away from interwebiness as much as possible. We are happy to announce that The Little Ghost will be the host of a pretty exciting and honorary show. This year we will be hosts of the National College of Art & Design Graduates Show. The show which is titled 'N.ew C.ats A.nd D.ogs' will be something of unique treat indeed and worthy contender for the BEST FUCKIN EXHIBITION OF THE YEAR award. Upon walking up the little stairs and into our little gallery you will be high 5'd In the eyes by the selection of work by some of the new and best artists that our little country has to offer. This Is the perfect opportunity for anyone who missed the NCAD Degree Show to catch a glimpse of it here. We have been wanting to get fresh new work In the gallery to bring It back to life and we really wanted It to be young and brand new. Stepping away from painting and Illustration we are so excited that some hand crafted artistic structures will haunt the space for the week and hopefully longer. So here Is whats on offer -

Calling all artists, crafties, photographers, designers and creatives alike. We are calling out for you to exhibit In the Little Ghost for the Kilkenny Arts Festival this year. We have decided to have an open call to anyone who is interesting In having a show In the gallery. We will select the work and artist that we feel represents the gallery the best. The more different and engaging the better. We are looking for energy to be brought to the gallery to make it less ghostly and more alive. The artist must be highly motivated and willing to draw a crowd. Is this you? The gallery is In a great spot around the festival, right on the tourist trail, leading up to one of the main venues for the Arts Festival, St Canices Cathedral. The gallery gets visitors during the day and night because of Its location and is a very versatile space that can engage with the public.
If you would like to rent the gallery space for the festival all you have to do Is the following:

Email the littleghostgallery@gmail.com with your intentions for your show. Attach sample pictures of your most recent work, a C.V. and any relevant information about the show you wish to house In the gallery.
The DEADLINE to get your submissions In to us Is July 22- THATS NEXT FRIDAY!!!!!!

We will be renting the gallery to the artist. The gallery Is rented to the artist for 3 weeks for a set fee. This gives the artist a week before and after the show to work In the gallery and have plenty of time to continue their show after the festival.

The Little Ghost Gallery has been a little more ghostly than usual over the past few months. After having many a cup of tea with a sit down chat followed by the ever more serious stand up hand signal chat, we have decided that we are going to make the Little Ghost a more creative place full time. With our ever growing work loads and the distance from home we have agreed that we would like to have someone with similar interests, ideas and intentions as us move into the space and make that their creative home.
The gallery is now a blank space which we intend on transforming into a studio space all depending on the artists studio needs.
The studio will be available to rent for exhibition for the Kilkenny Arts Festival which is now open for application.
If you would like to apply for the Little Ghost Studio we need the following from you:

The Little Ghost Flea market is open again this weekend due to popular demand. I'm not kidding we are becoming popular, us, the littlest of flea markets has now got followers and regulars. This will be our 4th week and each week we are getting bigger and better and growing in stock but you HAVE to get down early to get the best buys. We are hoping to eventually expand If the demand Is there so we really need your support and for oy yes YOU with the reading eyes to tell people and post this page on your Facebook pages. The more people who visit us the more we can offer. If In one weekend we get over 100 visitors we will grow into a larger space next door and rent more tables to people who want to join in. After a long break and planning the Little Ghost Gallery will be opening it's doors to a new year with loads of exciting events and shows.
We will be having the Galleries first Flea Market this month. The first of many to come so please come along and find some hidden treasure. We took time out to plan a new direction with the gallery to really make the space more interactive and well just active. We will be hosting some workshops in Illustration and creative practices, more info on these to come in the following week or so. We are also looking into renting the space throughout the year to artists as a creative studio, so If anyone is interested in learning more about this please email is at littleghostgallery@gmail.com.

Victoria Cody Graduated from Limerick School of Art and Design with a Degree in Fine Art Printmaking (2009)

"I fell in love with collage making through making stencils while studying printmaking in college. Every aspect of collage making is appealing to me. I love the rummaging and collecting. Searching for images in second-hand shops and vintage magazines is an exciting part of the process.

Transformation is a recurring theme in my practice. Working with collage on paper is the perfect medium as it enables constant transformation. The images I find are sliced up and recombined to form new images with new meaning. The work is strongly influenced by Victorian art and working on paper conveys the frailty that underlies the tragic and romantic themes in my work.

The hybrid animals are like messengers or religious icons. The stark contrast of vivid colour on a white background gives the work the 'felt' quality I seek. I want my figures to communicate a haunting quality and also to have a sense of isolation as if they were subject

to some subliminal force of nature."

The Sunday Times Help us fight crime!

We were surprised to find this little piece in a section of the Sunday Times today.
We are getting ever so closer to the sticky bandits! We really don't want to have to name and shame the person or people but If it comes to it we just might do it for the craic!
We said a week ago that we would give it a week for whoever drunkly stole from us to return the goods. We politely extend this invitation to return the items to the gallery by 24 hours.
After that we are going all out and if we have the attention of the national newspapers then we really will go all out!
So to you who knows who has our lights, YES YOU! then you know what to do or we make this even more CRAZY !!!!!

Paul Mahon and the Pen Pal Pears.

This is a really great little piece of film made by Paul Mahon. Where would we be without Paul Mahon. I know I would be pushing a shopping trolley filled with trash and pulling along a pet duck on a lead. Anne would be running some underground type Fight Club for ducks hence where I got mine. This is exactly the way our lives would be if we hadn't a Paul Mahon in it. So I suggest you go out there and find yourself a Paul before it's too late.
To Paul this was a quick little thing he through together in bed one morning that as he said himself "sure man I didn't really give it much thought to be honest".
I love how Paul is the guy in the room who everyone knows, the guy with the headband and bright coloured pants always seeming like he is up to devilment.Who would have known he was the one who captured these lovely shots when no one was looking. I think it encapsulates the feeling of the whole night. Everyone sharing curious glances, chirping to one another and sharing good laughs. Everyone has a child like sense of wonder in their face as they were reading and peeping at all the artists work. Just Perfect. Thank you Paul. Couldn't have chosen a nicer track to accompany it.

WE HAVE BEEN ROBBED AND NEED YOUR HELP!

After having such a great night for the opening on Friday we were so disappointed to discover that someone had stolen something from the gallery.
We had two handmade Little Pacman style glass ghost lanterns on our stairs and someone swiped them. We have had them since the gallery opened and they mean a lot to us. The thought that someone came to the show, drank our wine, ate our food mingled amongst the good folk and then took the lanterns is really shit!

We know someone there knows who took them and we want them back. Please mail us at littleghostgallery@gmail.com or call us on 0851032909 if you wanna rat out your scumbag mate.

To the person who took them we are delighted to tell you that there is a small camera above the stairs that captured the whole thing. So we don't wanna have to chase you down so if your reading this or your friend is then all you have to do is bring them back. If not we print the images of you taking them and put them on-line. Would be pretty nice to hand into a Garda station too now that I think of it.

The gallery is open all week so drop them in any time. If they are not back in the gallery by the end of the week well then we name and shame.

Thank you to everyone who came down to the Pen Pal Pears show opening on Friday night. It was a great night and we didn't expect the huge crowd that came down. The reaction to the show was immense and nothing beat the great feeling that was there on the night as all the Pen Pal Pears finally met each other. So many hugs, so many high 5's so so many new friends made.

Thanks to Niall & his lovely girlfriend for making cake and the most amazing gummy bears shish kebabs ever!!! To Kerry for all the food and sausage rolls, flippin YUM! Lily & Kev we are still sooooo sorry that really expensive bottle of wine you got us was swallowed by the pirates but we are gonna relax today and enjoy our chocolate so thank you. Eleanor gave us a new edition for the gallery which you must come and see its actually magical and possesses powers beyond this universe.

A gigantic, massively huge whopper of a thanks to Michael McDermott from LeCool who opened the show for us. I don't think anyone has ever seen an opening like Michaels. Amazing! The man is a genius. I am dedicating a whole show to the Life and times of Mr Michael McDermott. We were lucky to have him stay down another night so the party never ended. Thank you sir you made the weekend.

To all the artists whose work is now on the gallery walls, thank you for your time, patience and dedication over the past few months. The whole experience was as challenging for Anne and myself as it was for you. We never realised how and simple idea could grow into a mini movement so quick. The stories of friendships being formed because of this show never grows old. Ever time I go back into the gallery I find something new on the wall. It is such a great show which such interesting artists. It was a pleasure hanging the work (long nights, stress, freak outs, panic attacks, fights, tea, coffee, tea, stiff drinks.......) and we hope to do it again so it is not a once off by any means.

The show is open all week from 12 - 5 pm and the artists in the show will be invigilating so make sure to chat to whoever is there and get to know their work. It's a show that takes time to view so when your there have a cuppa or bring like a really nice ice pop and browse those walls. It is like a traditional Facebook. You get to read peoples lives and see where they are at and what they have done in the past few months. You can like or ignore the work, logout or walk out, suggest it to a friend and also poke a real live artist when your there, poke them right in the arm!!!

We have a video on the way from Mr Paul Mahon who was so awesomely awesome to film the night with his lovely new camera and also provide the great visuals we had outside. There will be more visuals outside the gallery during the week so pop on down some night.

I stole some photos from Lily Reilly so shhhhhh she may never know. We will post up all the artists work over the next week so keep an eye out and please call down to see it and tell your friends.

PEN PALS POWER EXTREME !!!!

5 DAYS TO GO

Only a few days to go until the opening night for the Pen Pal Pears show. So what is this Pen Pal nonsense you so brashly speak of with your fancy pants arty jibber jabber??? Well I will tell thee.

A few months back we asked artists of all artistic backgrounds to send us examples of their work. We chose 60 artists out of a near 200 and we spent a few nights looking closely at all the artists work. We then paired off the artists into 30 pairs and wrote a letter to each. In this letter was the postal address of their new Pen Pal Pear.

We asked the artists to make contact with their Pen Pal and create something that will be exhibited in the gallery as a large group show. The artists were asked not to Google or email each other. We begged them not to Facebook their Pen Pal or meet them face to face. We only wanted them to contact each other using the postal system and eventually when the are finished their collaboration they meet face to face on the opening night of the show which is this coming Friday the 6th of August.

Who doesn't like getting post? Awwwwwww it's one of those lovely little things in life that never grows old. But due to our increasing laziness and obsession with everything online we forget the good old days and we give a big MEH! to romance and letter writing. My brother Dave still writes home and I think it's so admirable and nice in today's world. When you get a hand written letter you get a sense of the process that went into putting it all together. Its all the fine details of putting the paper down, sitting at your desk or kitchen table, writing away taking the time to seal and send. Perfect! You can see how I'm totally goin for an An Post Oscar .

Well we thought how great would it be if we could ask artists to just write a letter to someone they don't know but knowing they share the same interest and have to work towards something together. We knew from the start that there would be problems and artists would drop out and people would panic and get frustrated and rush things and others would take it in their stride and some would forget and some wouldn't give a shit and some would sneak an email or even meet their artist Pen Pal. We wanted all of this to happen because ever moment was being recorded through the letters and through the creation of each artwork.

The show itself will be something very different. The finished art works will be displayed but also all of the letters, packages, emails, notes, post-it's from all the artists so the viewer can see all every bit of creation from start to finish. We don't want to just hang all the pieces on the wall n some boring manner so we are working hard to make the display of the work as interesting as the work itself. There are friendships formed and artists pals made for life, some of the artists met up in other countries, some never made it past the first letter, some fell out but its all so damn interesting!

So next Friday please come and join us and be apart of what will be a very different and unique event. Meet the artists and have a drink with us. We hope to have some live music and all our visitors make their own letter to be sent to someone the may know or not know.

The rumours you have been hearing are true. We would like to be the official word on the street and tell you that yes Mr Steve McCarthy is head lining this year at the Little Ghost Gallery.
I know what your thinking and I honestly do sympathise with you about buying Oxegen tickets or tickets for any other festival this year now knowing they were a waste. It has taken us about 15 years to get Mr Steve McCarthy for what will be his biggest solo show to date.
I was introduced to Mr Steve McCarthy last year by a young chimney sweep named Rob Dunne. We shook hands and exchanged witty banter and childish witticisms. He held the air of a gentleman with a cheeky swagger of a knacker after throwing stones. "This lad is Awright", said a passing drunken Naval Officer, who Mr Steve McCarthy had obviously entertained moments before. My curiosities began to shit their pants. 'Who is this seemingly flawless gentleman, and where did he get those shoes'?
After a visit to an exhibition I was having in what is now the Little Ghost gallery, I was quick to realise that Mr Steve McCarthy was an artist, due to his lack of interest of what I had on the wall. Being the mysterious gentleman that he is, he did grace his fingers to his chin when viewing some of the pieces only to mutter a purr like 'hmmmmmmm'! I must say I did like the cut of his jib and who was to know that less than a year later I would be sharing a studio with the man and ~~having a child with his girlfriend. (~~cough!)

In the past year myself and Anne have befriended Mr Steve McCarthy. This meeting has created so many wonderful happenings. I now share a beautifully cool studio space in the Monster Truck Studios with him and other amazing folk. Through Steve I have met an array of great mates that would make up a killer Top Trumps set of cards. Without meeting this fine gentleman I would still be wearing Velcro strap shoes and I wouldn't have witnessed his brother skateboard in a banana suit. Thank you Mr Steve McCarthy, Thank you.

Mr Steve McCarthy - ....Yeah fuck your notes and your ridiculous time to interview people, its 4:30 in the morning, I'm in bed.

Me - So how would you rate yourself as an artist from 1 - 10?

Mr Steve McCarthy - 11. Now get the fuck outta my house before I call the cops.

Steve McCarthy is one of the most welcoming artists I have ever met. This kind of personality is seen right through his work which seems to flow from him so naturally as if he was given life to do this and only this. Without you ever knowing it Mr Steve McCarthy would have introduced himself to you. Like this AD we all admired on the tele, that was Mr Steve McCarthy saying 'How-ya Boss'. Who would have thought that the person who created such a loving advert owns a large collection of prison shanks.

Since we opened the Little Ghost Gallery we have been hoping to get Mr Steve McCarthy have a show there and at long last he is now booked in a ready to take to the main stage to headline a huge solo gig!

I don't want to reveal too much about the show as I don't even know the title of it yet but what I can tell you is that it will be truly unforgettable. If you are expecting the typical pictures on the wall with some boring price tags underneath then think again. We don't roll in such ways. This will be an opening night you will not want to miss. I have heard rumours of well know spinners of vinyl playing on the night. I have heard rumours of large projections and people travelling from a far to see it. These are all but rumours but I'm fully sure Mr Steve McCarthy created them so they have to be real.

The opening night of the show will be the 18th of JUNE! Chalk it down! Be there early on the night to get the free goodies which are all mini fun size artworks that you will cherish and pass on to your children. Mr Steve McCarthy's work sells fast so make sure you get down and fall in love with his work.

Mr Steve McCarthy was awarded a place in my top 5 artists earlier this year when I saw him at work one in the studio one day. He doesn't sketch or rub out or delete it just seems to flow very naturally and I hate him for that the BASTARD!!! But he has actually been officially awarded a place in my Top 5 artists list in no particular order:

Pen Pal Pears NEWS!!!!

Thank you to all who applied for the Pen Pal Pears group show. We were knocked out by the huge amount of submissions we received for the show. We had set aside a weekend to go through all the artists work thinking it would take just a few hours but how wrong we were.
We had planned on pulling the selected artists names from a hat at random to make the pairs for the show but once we received all the submissions after the deadline we realised that this would have complicated the show and not made the pairings as successful. We were able to pair artists from other countries who compliment each other in the mediums they work. Photographers with graphic illustrators, poets with musicians, tattoo artists with comic artists, painters with writers, conceptual artists with delicate hand craft artists and so on and so on. This process of matching up each artists by their work took us days but it was so exciting and uplifting but also tough as we had to say no to a lot of the artists who applied. We are so grateful to those artist who replied saying they would stay in touch with the gallery and will be down to the show on the opening night. Damn you nice artists making us feel even more guilty!!!
The show was very nearly cancelled as was the gallery just after the deadline of the submissions. We had a huge fire in the floor shop that is in the same building as the gallery. The fire service were incredible and kicked the living shit out of the fire and killed it before it gutted the building. The gallery sustained some smoke damage and we are without electricity and heat and there is a big clean up to be done. We were about to cancel the group show and all other shows booked in this summer but to hell with that. Nothing a weekend, some good friends, a few beers and some serious elbow grease won't fix. We will have the gallery up and going in a few weeks hopefully.

We picked 60 artists out of nearly 200 who applied. This 60 were put into 30 pairs. These 30 artists are the Pen Pal Pears. We will not be releasing the names of the artists or pairs as we do not want any of them to know who was paired with who until the opening night of the show in July.

By now all the Pen Pals should have revived their letters revealing their chosen Pen Pal Pear so if you have get cracking and stay in touch with us if you need anything or need to know about size as the gallery is small. To anyone who has not yet received their Pen Pal or an email to say why please email us and we will sort it out.

Pen Pal Pairs? I don't get it?

First things first, I think we should clear up any confusion for people about the title of the show. No it was not a misprint we refused to admit to and no we are not dyslexic and yes we understand the difference between pairs and pears. We simply wanted to have a play on words for the show. We could have called the show 'Pen Pal Pairs', which was the obvious first choice but we thought that was just too obvious and dull. We are aware that it is impossible for pears to have pen pals as they have no hands therefore not able to write a letter. We did not mean to offend any pears by this and we assure you that we at the Little Ghost Gallery support the pear community whole heartily.

The ridiculous name of the upcoming group show has in way become an infectious little annoyance to people. We at the gallery love this. The reason for this is so you don't forget it and either apply with work and join in the fun and frolics or come and support the artists who do take part. Either way the Pears are coming to get ya.

Now to make another little confusion clear the show has nothing to do with pears at all. So please don't think that the work on the walls will be selections of pears and nice watercolours of fruit baskets and still lives because the day that happens at the Little Ghost is the day we douse the place in gasoline and strike a match to it. Don't get me wrong or anything I don't mind a good still life I just think they are STD's of art galleries.

So to sum it all up the word 'pears' in the title is a play on the word Pairs as in two of something and the show itself is not going to be about the fruit that is the pear. Its exactly like apple computers...they may have an apple on the front but they taste absolutely nothing like real apples.

We are looking for all artists out there to apply to be apart of what will be a big show in June. The show is all about creating a piece of work with someone you have never met, using the Post. The first time you meet your creative partner is on the opening night of the show and here friendships will blossom and hopefully creative partnerships will be created. Well done to Mr Phil Evans who exhibited in the Little Ghost Gallery last week, we just found out that some of his previous work has been snapped up by the Waterford City municipal collection where he will be hanging out with renowned irish artists Jack B Yeats and Louis Le Brocquy.

Phil's exhibition was a great success and we're recieving so much positive feedback from the show, it can only mean good things on the way for Phil. Pen Pal Pears – Group Show

The time has come for the Little Ghosts second big group show and we want you all to get involved. This is for all the creative's who want to dedicate themselves to new art and new friendships.

Just so we can clear things up before you read on and think we are all about the typo's, The show is about artists working in pairs but we are calling the artists pears as in the fruit just for a play on words. Oh how bloody arty of us you must think, well yes, yes we are bloody arty and proud of our stupidity.

Artists are selected and paired off to create a unique piece together. The catch is the artists only meet for the first time on the opening night of the show. The gallery brings two artists who may not know each other and have them create a piece together by using the Post. Their relationship is completely formed through the art piece they build together and without ever speaking or seeing one another meet for the first time at the grand opening.

Dear Artists, creative's and makers of all things,

The Little Ghost Gallery invites you to submit a piece of work to our second group show exhibition entitled “Pen-Pal Pears”. We ask you to create a piece of art, with a “Pen-Pal Pear” partner whom we will select at random for you. This person may turn out to be the love of your life, your arched enemy, or your future artistic partner. They may live around the corner from you behind the shops, or in a busy city that never sleeps on the far side of the world. The rule is, you are not allowed to meet in person and you should communicate by using post or email if you must! You may create anything your hearts desire.

We encourage artists who are accepted for this show to really go by the brief and to work on pieces using the postal system and never to meet before the opening of the show. Going against this just takes the fun and magic away. The work can be as big or as small as need be. The way you create it by never meeting in person is what makes it so interesting and in a sense how you go about using the post is the art piece.

Here is how to apply...

·        Send the gallery examples of your most recent work along with your contact details, postal address and website if you have one. We are only interested in your most recent projects or personal work. Email JPEG or PDF files to littleghostgallery@gmail.com. The deadline for work to be sent in is FRIDAYDAY 30th of APRIL 2010

·        The successful artist’s names will be placed into a hat. Each artist pair will be chosen at random from the hat . This artists pairs will be posted on The Little Ghost Gallery Blog shortly after.

·        Each artist will then be given the postal and contact details of their “Pen-Pal Pear”. Both artists will have 4 weeks to collaborate and create a piece for the group show.
·        The work must be delivered to the gallery by Thursday the 27^th of May along with the title of the work, medium used, size and price.
·        The show will open on Friday the 4^th of June at 8pm.

Artists are responsible for the delivery and collection of their own work. The gallery will not hold or keep artists work after the closing date of Saturday the 12^th of June 2010.

The selected artists are asked to give a €20 donation to go towards the cost of the opening night and upkeep of the gallery; we are a non profit independent gallery and your donations are what keep the gallery going.

We can only accept artist applications that have met the brief guidelines.

Last Days of Phil Evans Show in Gallery

The Little Ghost Gallery was delighted to host the first solo exhibition for the talent that is Phil Evans. Unfortunately I was away on the night of the opening last Friday but from I heard it was a pretty sweet as night.
This all sounds like the show is done and dusted...hells no it ain't. There is two solid days left and whoever is reading this and has yet wandered down to the gallery, well I insist you do.
You have to see this show for the following reasons which have been officially written by the Government.

Phil's artwork makes your eyeballs feel like they are skateboarding.
There is no stuck up, fancy pants, rip off ego art going on. Its straight up good fun and damn fine art.
Phil once saved his girlfriends gerbils life.
If you have never tried tea whilst viewing art in a gallery well Phil will sort it out.
There are hand made free gifts and the best business cards I have ever seen there for the taking.
Phil tells a bad ass story about a fight you only hear about in guy football films.
The Little Ghost Gallery is actually clean and has a new old sign up which is worth any tourist photo opportunity
Phil is actually a rare breed of gentleman artist that is slowly becoming extinct.
Phil holds the record for the longest break dance body pop in the world ever. He will only show it to a crowd of at least 20 or more but never 50 as he could easy kill a crowd that big with such a big body pop.
. This is Phil's first solo show so it would be great to say hey I was at his first show back in the day. I kinda regret not buying something now that he is a huge name in the art world.

That's just some of the 250 Government reasons outlined in the official Little Ghost Report about the show. We all know if the Government say so we must abide.

There are 2 days left in the show and I went in today as Im just home from my travels and it was such a great space to walk into. Phil working away at his desk with nice tunes on and he is still putting out the work. Every artist knows what its like to have slow days and have no one in, its heart breaking so if your about Kilkenny do stop in. Everything in Kilkenny is a few minutes walk away, if you were in Paris or New York you would get trains and boats miles away to see some classical boring rubbish art just to get a photo to prove to yourself that you were there. At least here its less travel for better art. DEAL!!!

I only got a quick look around at Phil's work today but on first glance it really grabs you. Like the idea of the mob that runs through the work, you quickly become the colourful masked face looking back at you. You jump back n forth from the canvas to see how it was made or what's hidden beneath the detailed lines. Its really clever and different and we at the Little Ghost couldn't be happier to have Phil on our walls.

Ill put up a better write up of the whole show once I have a better look at it and enjoy it with a cup of tea and a nice sit down.

PHIL EVANS SHOW IS NEARLY OPEN!!!!!

I don't mean to be pushy or put peer pressure on anyone BUT if your not down to the Little Ghost Gallery on Friday night, Yes this Friday night, we'll come to your house and do a serious knick-knack on it or maybe if we have shared a Luke warm can of shandy we may even egg your house. Hellz yes that's a threat. Not a treat as I may have just misspelled it there but a very real treat..I mean threat.

We're not usually this pushy when it comes to shows at the old gallery but this time we have a pretty hardy badger sheltering his work under our roof. A mister Phil Evans will take the gallery for a week and blow your God damn minds. I'm not kidding he has the gentle persona of a man who carries a Colt 45 strapped to his ankle. So you can understand why were in such a pickle here with this renegade artist. He pretty much called me up and said if I don't comply to his demands he will kill his girlfriends gerbil....I said to him like any good art gallery owner, "Kill the fuckin rat but make sure you take a photo before and after". I'm pretty sure that dead gerbil will be in the show so that's a must see right there. He also said if we the gallery don't have at least 50 people at his grand opening on Friday night that he will kill Anne. Now I don't know if this is true but I wouldn't like to chance it. I'm so freaked out and worried for my life that I'm going to Barcelona and Paris to see if they can help us get him out of our gallery. Just like in that film Braveheart but totally different.

So if your in Kilkenny and you want to have a pretty awesome night on Friday night THIS FRIDAY COMING AGAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHH well then you know where to go. NOT THERE WHERE YOU JUST THOUGHT...The Little Ghost Gallery Yes that's right!

Lets say about 8 ...would that be OK for you? Great! 8 It is so. Can you bring your own beer or wine?? Why yes yes you can. Are you allowed to dance to the awesome live tunes on the night....YES! Yes you are! Can you maybe meet the love of your life that night and fall deep in love and all thanks to the gallery where Phils show is on??? NO! Phil said that's not allowed, also he said no cats allowed and bring sandwiches, the kind at 21st's.

Also if your in Dublin and sick of it and realise yeah I'm gonna live a little THIS FRIDAY, maybe I dunno, go to Kilkenny, stop in have a pint, be at the Little Ghost Gallery for like ... I dunno...8. Maybe even ...I dunno ...buy a painting. Yeah maybe don't be so stingey all your life and buy something that's beautiful and unique unlike that car you drive or that hat you wear. Phill made us say that, we never speak like that.

We'll since I'm so upset I best be off, but remember, Joe's is just around the corner from the gallery and so is every pub in Kilkenny and a Halal shop so what more do you need to have a good time. Dead Gerbils? Phil has it covered!

PHIL EVANS – ARTISTS STATEMENT

"I could never get my head around mob mentality. I've never been quite sure where my attitude for this comes from, but as far back as I can remember I could never understand why people would succumb to the ideas of a larger group even if they didn't share the opinion of that group. The people who inspire me most are those who don't regard the opinion of "The Mob" and just pursue the course that feels most natural to them, which is often following their passions.
As a human in Irish society today there are many seemingly inescapable clichés that go unquestioned. I found by using a very simple character in all of the works for this show that I could put some of these various common scenarios into a slightly ridiculous context, and therefore make these scenarios more questionable. Media, advertising, dress codes, fame, txt speak, idols, music, sport, public movement and opinions are some of the ideas that seemed most apt for me to illustrate what I was trying to get at, which is that there is no harm in questioning anything you do. Just because everyone else is doing something it does not mean you are obliged to participate also. "The next big thing" will be yesterday’s news in no time. Who says you need to spend your evenings in front of a flat screen HD ready TV? Who says you don't? Who says you need to ride around on a skateboard or spend hours on end scribbling to get the most out of your day? Do whatever floats your boat, or don't."

The Little Ghost gallery is a charming little nest tucked away in what used to be an old grain store. The gallery’s intimate size offers both creative’s and visitors alike to experience a more welcoming and charming side to visual art.

The gallery encourages openness towards the artists and visiting public and feel art can be enjoyed a lot more in cosy surroundings with a cup of tea in hand. The gallery intends to make you feel at home with the art on display. The aim of the gallery is to display and sell artists work in a humble setting that rejects the stiffness and lifelessness of typical art galleries.

The gallery acts as both a working studio and exhibition space for the artist. Depending on the artist in residence the studio can be open to the public and you will be able to glimpse a show in creation.

The frequent launch nights and show openings are always a huge attraction. The gallery transforms into an engaging social event with live music and projected visuals that always makes for a great party.

The Little Ghost gallery / studio is an independent space for independent artists. The gallery acts as a non commercial unit that facilitates artists endeavours by providing them with a compatible studio and exhibition space.

Phil Evans & The Little Ghost

From the 26th of March until the 2nd of April Mr Phil Evans will be taking over The Little Ghost Gallery with his first solo show which he has been working away on into the wee hours. Phil is a good friend of the gallery having exhibited with us before in the "Toys of Christmas Past" show, now he is going to completely take over the place and do his own thing.

Phil says the show is "A tongue in cheek look at having to supposedly comply to mob mentality in many aspects of life and society today. I'm going to have a lot of new work on display that I've been flat out on for the last while. As well as that, Bray beat bustawill be providing smoove grooves on the night and also debuting his first album, good show. There's a few extra little treats in store for the night in question to make it different from the usual well trodden opening night stuff, but you'll have to turn up to find out!"

I don't know about you, but I'm going to be dancing my pants off to Luke's serious tunes and more TUNES, now come party the night away with us square pants! Then look over the road to our nearest B&B and fall in the door.

Eleanor Reilly - I asked for a Puffalump - 2009 - Toys of Christmas Past Exhibition

This is Eleanor Reilly telling us the story of how she longed for a Puffalump for Christmas but instead she was given a duvet. Lousy!
Sound parents right there. A duvet...whats that saying to a child? ' Enjoy the gift of warmth and comfort because normally we let you sleep by the door'. I dunno I think this piece is really shocking and seriously heart breaking. If Barnardo's or the ISPCC get wind of this it might be the last piece we ever see made by Eleanor before she is locked away in an adult foster home.
If we look closely at Eleanors art and her attention to detail we can clearly see it was her parents influence she became such a great artist. Its evident that her parents never gave Eleanor the luxuary of toys, computer games, television or even crayons or colouring pencils judging by the detailed pencil work we see here. Eleanor had to grow up in a furnitureless room with just a duvet ( plain too) and a pencil and paper as entertainment. Shocking! Over the years eleanor was so bored she befriended four really sound dustmites. One of these mites who we will name Joe for legal reasons was a skilled artist. He spent years training Eleanor how to craft tiny versions of the things she loved but did not have. One of the strongest example of this microscopic craftswomanship is in this piece. Just look at that little Puffalump. That is pure talent and skill, the kind only an artistic dustmite can train you in.
Eleanor was banished from her home after a few years. She had "accidentally" crushed Joe (the dustmite,who her family grew to adore) and used his fine textured hair as spokes of a miniture bicycle in some piece depicting some foreign country she pretended she went too.
Once Eleanor was set free of the shackles of stinginess of her parents she became emersed in all things creative. She would go to art shows and flirt with the wine. She would hunt artists she admired and use their mojo as inspirational glue. She would be given the key to the city that she built for the dustmites out of Rice Krispies and guilt.
The Little Ghost Gallery has fostered Eleanor as one of their own. Its a great feeling as an artist to come across someone who you know by the depressed look on thier face that they have dedicated their life and soul to their art. We in turn dedicate our friendship and time to this truely gifted and special artist. To find out more about Eleanor and her love life just click HERE. LITTLE GHOST ARTISTS STUDIOS FOR RENT

The Little Ghost Gallery is looking for new artistic neighbours. We are hoping to build up an artist community in and around the area of the Coach Road on the way up to St Canices Cathedral and Dean Street. This area has many properties to Let and many empty office and shop front that we feel are going to waste. This is where we feel the artistic community can step in and create an established artistic ghetto of sorts.

There is a great studio space beside the gallery up for rent and we are hoping to get artists in make a creative atmosphere. The room is split into 3 spaces. One large, medium and small. There is a storage closet and the small room to the front could be used as a dark room if its needed. Its a cosy little space and and looks out onto the hill up to Canices Cathedral.

The space is ideal for an artist studio and would comfortably house at least 3 - 4 artists. The space is unfurnished but Im sure there would be a skip you can steal from somewhere. There is Gas heating and the electicity can be run off a meter if it suits you better than a bill.

Kilkenny is becoming a great place to set up shop as an artist. Since the new by-pass went in Dublin is less than an hour and a half away. Its 20 min from Thomas Town and 10 min form Bennetsbridge. Perfect. If your an artist wanting to set up a new artist collective with a few other artists this space would be perfect and you have a gallery next door, what more do you need?

Skeleton Dance by Sara Antoinette Martin

When someone as nice as Sara Antoinette Martin sends a piece like this to us in the Little Ghost all the way from her studio in New York, you realise that there are so many people in the world that you need to personally high 5.

I was doing the Secret Wars showdown before Christmas in Dublin. Our team was up against the skilled OFFSET team and I was a bit buzzed at the fact that folk such as Tara Mcpherson and James Jean were in town giving talks and might very well pop along and kick back with us. Didnt think Tara Mcpherson would actually jump up and start juicing her maker on the the OFFSET board but she did and well that was just awesome. After the show I thought I might go up n chat to Tara about the gallery and ask her would she like to put some work in sometime and make new friends in a little Irish town. I realised once we got to partying that the last thing I wanted to do was wreck the head of someone who I admire with shite talk and she was bombed with same ol same ol so Instead I fondled a mans beard in front of her and scattered.

But after this I emailed her causeIts farrrrr more polite these days. She couldnt get work over as the timeline was too tight and she was busy out but she said her friend Sara might be interested. Low and behold Sara is thee Sara. The Frida Kahlo of today without the unibrow and broken back and frog like man on her arm.

Was a pleasure to hang this in the gallery and I was a bit bummed it sold so quick as I really wanted it. Thats the last time I ignore the greed part of my brain. I did get a lovely signed print of "Unfinanced Love" for Christmas from my lady faced lady. Gonna carry it under my arm everywhere I go.

We hope to see more of Sara's work on the wall of the Little Ghost and have her over for some hot whiskeys and a cuppa cha someday.

Rattle Me Bones by Ivor Noyek

This sweet little piece is from the hand of a man they call Ivor Noyek.You may remember Ivor from such art show episodes as The For The Love Of, which he stars with his fellow art attack mate Shane O Drizzy who made the sweet 'Longest Skid Wins' piece in the show we just had on. Both lads will be hosting yet another FTLO show in the Mill Street Gallery soon, this time it shall be the 'For The Love Of Change' show. They send out a brief asking artists to submit work based on this theme and then put on a big show where loads of folk flock to see and buy and party. Its really overrated though. I mean Ive been in their last two "successful" shows, FTLO God & FTLO Live and to be honest I thought it was pretty Sunday Mass like. Well I mean there was amazing artists at it and loads of people were there and each time round the shows gets bigger and better but yet again Ivor comes along and out dresses everyone else not even considering the thoughts and feelings of the poor artist who cant possibly afford such threads. Even though FTLO is one of the best new group shows you can be apart of and they throw a badass opening, its no excuse for Shane O drizztics speeches. Yeah he has a pretty good flow but shhhhhhhhhh its an art gallery not a library. I dunno? We the Little Ghost keep offering them advice and help and encourage them to shut down but they ignore us.... kids wha? I tells ya! Ivors piece is called 'Rattle me Bones'. It was a game back in the day kinda like Buckaroo only better as it was a skeleton on a pirates treasure chest. It was pretty cool check it out here.
Ivor used some ink and pro markers I think on this and it was done on some newsprint I do believe. Still available from the Little Ghost gallery if you wanna buy it. Just send us an old email and then send us the money we'll be sure to send it on to whats his name. Ivor is a designer who makes things on a computer and a pretty good one too think its a Mac or something. Anyway if ya want Ivor to make you something or draw you something its best ask us first cause he will be out buying something nice for his legs or he will be stealing car radios. A Wistful Desire by Martin Whelan

Nice nostalgic digital print from Martin Whelan. Martin is a new name to us at the gallery but we were really impressed with his take on the brief for the Toys of Christmas Past show. The use of colour is really strong and the composition is worked well with the form of a scalextric track with the little car shooting out.
We are really looking forward to seeing more work from Martin in the future. I hope he does some more scalextric stuff cause that is pretty damn cool.

Allied Occupation Forces in France by John Corrigan

This is John Corrigans piece from the Toys of Christmas Past Show. John based this on an old toy soldier play set he had as a child. I think it was like a Normandy landing playset and he put his own swing on it. I dont remember any old plastic soldier sets being detailed I always remember they were universally the same in a wee bag had a German flag and an American Flag and a crap jeep and tank and a few sand bags. We wanna see this play set john or we cry hoax!
But ya gotta love this piece right? Its pretty sweet as. That girl is pretty hot too I dunno why all the soldiers are running away from her maybe they just wanna party with their baguette and wine. This is a limited edition print and we still have the framed one available to buy in the gallery but not for long more as it shall be going back to the artist so if you want it at a good price send us an email and we can send it out to you in a tank.

She Wolf Cub & Fisher Price Frog by Kate Elliot

When Kate sent me this in the post I thought it was a gift my girlfriend had bought me on Ebay then after i read the note with Reuben's (her pirate partner) I realised it was not to be mine it was her submission for the Toys of Christmas Past show. I felt sad. Then I was happy cause it is such a cool piece. I lve nothing better than anything hand stitched once its not some shitty emo doll. But this little wolf cub that was made from memory of what Kate had as a little girl pirtate is so good. There is so much personality and expression in it when you see it up close and her legs are sewn in the perfect way that she sits perfectly. Attached to her killer claw is her pull a long Fisher Price frog. I really liked this and it reminded me when I was a little shit machine and I used to be so excited about a new toy I would get I would draw it. I loved drawing Dino Riders you could always ad mad lazers n blood too. I dont remember this frog but Anne knew it straight away as did loads at the opening night. There is a serious home made whack of nostalgia and love off Kates piece and I think it would make someone really happy as a gift cause I got all mush when I opened the box to find it inside. So if anyone is interested in giving the little cub a home just send us an email and we'll get back to you right away. Kate is always making little gems like this and I hope soon she will have a site up with all her work. ~~NO!~~

OH TELESCOPE TELESCOPE I LOVE YOU SO by Reuben Whitehouse

This awesome lino printed masterpiece is from the only genuine REAL living pirate in the world that I know of. His name is Reuben Whitehouse but his pirate name is Boo. I have known Boo and his beautiful lady in life, Kitty, for years n years now and had the bestest start to 2010 by welcoming it in with them. They have lived pirate lives travelling the sea and dusty roads of Oz for the past ages and now are living in Bristol where they make lots of cool things just like this piece which I love.It was part of our 'Toys of Christmas Past Show' Im loving the fact that each letter is indiviually hand cut and you can see the ink lines so well. Its mad homely and has a sense of building blocks you might have had as a little nipper. Best part is if you knew Boo you know this is exactly what he said to his telescope as a wee lad as he hugged it in his room. I dig nothing more than simplicity and language used in genius ways and this does it for me. My favourite part of the whole thing has to be the ultra AWESOME lightening bolt signiture stamp in the bottom corner. NICE!!! !
This piece is still up for sale but will be taken down this weekend and I think there is 80 bucks or something on it maybe more but so worth it as your gonna hear more about this pirate boo real soon and then you will regret not owning one of his early pieces. Imagine this on a kids bedroom wall.. screw kids imagine it on your wall especially in a sweet old attic bedroom. 2010 in the LIttle Ghost

Sorry for the lack of update or news from the Little Ghost. We are back after a really lovely break away. Anne & myself spent a few days locked away in a wee thatched cottage on a little island off Donegal after New Years so we had time to work out plans for the little ghost over a fine turf fire.

We needed a lie in for about 2 weeks after the mad run up to the gallery opening and all that. So we have scrubbed up in our finest overalls and have begun to take down the Toys of Christmas Past Show and make way for a new show.

So here is our plan: We havent got one yet. But were working on it. But then once we found we were working on it it made the whole process a bit shit and boring and more like regular gallery shit. So we decided to watch DVDs and Anne cooked some bad ass meals from an awesome cook book. There are so many types of amazing fish I have never eaten and they must defo be eaten i tells ya. I suggest we call all fish yumfish from now on cause i aint found one that isnt nice ...well tuna is pretty uckkkkfish. Anyway this is how Anne & me procrastinated when it came to the gallery. We would sit down like so, and say hey whats the story with the gallery. Then one of us would automatically point at something in the room and before you know it we have spent 7 long strong hours playing a board game no one has ever heard of. Let me tell you this the game is grape & i didnt mispell that by mistake. Anyway seems like I maybe doin the old procrastination dance again like Kevin Costner in that film with the indian wolves, he got nuttin done absoutley nuttin. Just danced and howled and protected Whitney Houston from being killed.

Anyway as I was saying before you interupted, the Little Ghost Gallery ( which has been voted best gallery in the world by my cousin dave and my brother who knows pretty much everything) will have another group show on in the coming months. We will be sending out the brief for the new show post haste but first we have to allow everyone calm down from the aftermath of the For The Love Of Change brief which came out a week or so ago. Word of advice from people who know, dont get too cosy with those FTLO lads, Shame and Igor. Its pretty obvious they are only in the game for the ladies, I mean one is really tall and has a pretty good taste in t-shirts and dont even get me started on how well dressed the other one is but anyways dont trust them whatever you do. Trust us cause we get stright to the point......

To cut a long story short, we are gonna have a group show in the next 2 months. Between now and then artists of any trade came email us at littleghostgallery@gmail.com and submit work. We are always looking for new artists with something different and new to offer. So if you or anyone you know is looking to put on an exhibition let us know. We will be renting the gallery space to the artist for week long runs. We will also have weekend runs and the artist will have to curate their show after the opening night which we will host for them. Ah just email us for details.

We have gotten loads of interest in the gallery and have alot of artists in contact with us so we can only host so many and we cannot accept all the work. During the year Anne & myself will travel to Berlin, Paris and NYC to meet new artists, galleries and spread the gallery all around. We are always looking for support and extra help even if it means painting walls or sitting with a show someday so let us know if your free & we'll put ya on our emergency help list.

Now that blog entry was long enough to buy me a few weeks of not posting anything. Nice one.

Longest Skid Wins - Shane O Driscoll

Shane O Driscoll is a great mate and an unreal talent when it comes to design. I couldnt wait to see his piece for the 'Toys of Christmas Past' show in the gallery. Its crazy how you can get a feeling of your childhood and the 80s by an image. So clever and cool. The title of this piece is called 'Longest Skid Wins'. I think everyone who read it at the show went 'Awwwww Yeahhhhh'!!! Id buy it for that titke alone. Its also cleverly priced at €88. Nice Shane!! Its well worth it. A once off 4 colour Screenprint on card taht captures the childhood of any scruffy young lad from the 80s who got a BMX from Santy. This piece is still on offer and on the wall so I encourage you too come and view it and then buy it cause its unreal. I really want it on a t-shirt or tattooed on my chest.

Shane is one of the fathers of FTLO shows which have set up to be one of the ground breaking success stories for large group exhibitions of 2009. Shane and the other dad of FTLO Ivor Noyek have made a line in the sand for new and independent artists in Ireland to cross over and make something of themselves by dedication alone.

I couldnt take my hat off enough to these two boys for their pure modesty and dedication alone. Its far and few you come across in the art world who set up high standards to follow by what they create and keep a level head. Gentlemen indeed.

If your an artist and want to find your place in the world and get your work out there in a professional and stylish manner well keep a close eye on these lads as next year everyone will be talking about them, Ive already started rumours.

Eleanor is a great friend of ours and is already a huge part of the Little Ghost Gallery family. We are lucky to have such a dedicated and beautifully talented artist like Eleanor be apart of the gallery, even if she does like Calvin Harris.

Funny you mention that because she has a piece in the Toys of Christmas Past group show which is on until December 24th. Yes you heard me Christmas Bloody Eve.
